About Us

The Center is carrying out education and advanced research programs, promoting industrial and academic cooperation, and building international network with the following objectives.

Global environment:the Center aims to develop new academic framework for the 21st century including environmental sciences and technology as the main core area.
Energy security: Globalization and the rapid economic development in the Asian continent, national resources are fast depleting leading to energy security problems. The increasing use of carbon resources leads to an increase in environmental pollution both locally and globally. The Center aims to create an academic platform based on advanced technologies in order to analyze and solve the global energy and environmental problems.
Human resource development: In response to societal demand, the Center plans to educate experts involved in the research on energy and environment for cleaner and effective use of carbon resources.

On-going Programs

a)Education: Interdisciplinary and international education programs. (1) Development of course material and arrangement of lectures under the “Advance Education Program for Effective Utilization of Fossil Fuel” (C. R. Educational Program hereafter), supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which is a comprehensive program aimed at studying fossil fuels. (2) The educational program of G-COE, i.e., NCRS, which was initiated to make young students and researchers aware of the advanced courses and research opportunities available in the field of interdisciplinary sciences.
b)Advanced Research: Advanced interdisciplinary research activities. (1) Conduct advanced research by creating research group . (2) Play the role of a national and international nodal center for research programs such as the “Innovative Zero-emission Coal Gasification Power Generation Project,” NEDO, from 2008 to 2012.
c)Collaboration between Industries and Academia: Simultaneously conduct C. R. Education Program and joint research with industries related to carbon resources and play the role as a center providing training. For this purpose, a carbon resource consortium by the end of 2009, which will realize continuous implementation of joint research programs at the Center. The Kyushu Society for Low-carbon Systems, established in 2007, seek regional cooperation with related companies, local governments, and institutions in the Kyushu region.
d)International Cooperation: Promote international cooperation in research and form a center for research related to global carbon resources. Signing agreements with Institut Teknologi Bandung and Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, for personnel and knowledge exchange and interaction, promotion of cooperation between research institutes in Asia.

e)Public Awareness: promote public awareness about effective use of carbon resources through seminars and exhibitions.
